DOUBLE VICTORY FOR CORY CACCIAVILLANI IN SUTTON

May 20, 2010 - Cory Cacciavillani continues to impress in his rookie season as a Senior after winning both the Honda Sr. Lite and Honda Senior Heavy classes at the opening round of the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship held at 3-S Go Karts in Sutton, Ontario. The young karter drove like a veteran, respected his competitors well, and was not only rewarded with two victories, but was also awarded the "Autosports Media BSRKC Senior Driver of the Day."

"What a great weekend! I was definitely not expecting to win both races," commented the sixteen year-old from his Leamington home. "I really have to thank my team for all their support and preparation for the event. JP [Frydrychowicz] and Adam [Zaremba] did a great job. Also Pete Rempel for great engines!"

After qualifying in seventh in Sr. Heavy, Cacciavillani worked his way through the field in the opening laps to join the leaders in fight for the lead, eventually crossing in second in the pre-final. Engaging in a three-kart break away in the final, he led the early stages of the race. With two karts tied to his rear bumper, one mistake could have cost him the race. But he drove a perfect mistake-free 20-laps, and fought off a late charge from second place to earn his first victory of the year and as a senior.

"I knew that Greg [Rempel] was behind me the whole race, and if I made any mistake, he would have capitalized. So I did what I had to do and drove a perfect race," commented Cacciavillani.

In Sr. Lite, Cacciavillani posted the quickest time in qualifying and earned the pole position. The pre-final witnessed many exciting passes for the lead and throughout the lead group of four. Not risking anything, he finished the heat in second place. In similar fashion to his earlier race, Cacciavillani jumped to an early lead and led from flag-to-flag en route to his second victory of the day.

Winning two races in Sutton is nothing new for the Leamington native, as he also won the Jr. Medium and Jr. Heavy races at 3-S Go Karts last year during the opening round of the BSRKC.

"I don't know what it is about this place, but I really enjoy coming here, and we always do really good."

Up next for Cacciavillani will be the second round of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship being held at Mosport International Karting on May 28-30. He will contest in Honda Senior as well as the Rotax DD2 class.
