Florida Winter Tour Rounds 1 & 2 Recap

Jan 18, 2010 - The CF Racing Team travelled to Orlando, Florida, USA for the opening rounds of the 2010 Florida Winter Tour. Held at the new Orlando Karting Center, team driver Cory Cacciavillani entered the event with no prior knowledge of the facilty. Not letting the inexperience at the facility get to him, Cory focused on learning the facilty quick and early.

A poor qualifying effort in race one forced Cory to the Last Chance Qualifier after posting the 45th placed time. Cruising through the field, Cory passed 11 karts in eight laps to earn the final transfer position into the main event. Starting dead last for the pre-final(34th), Cory prooved he had the pace to race with the leaders and disposed of half the field and placed 16th, lapping only a couple tenths off the leaders while in traffic. An opening lap incident forced Cory to make an evasive maneuver, and fell to 23rd position, well behind the field. Showing his never-give-up attitude, Cory stayed on track, drove very consistent laps and eventually made his way back to 17th.

Race two started off much better than race one as Cory qualified in 15th position, only two-tenths of a second from fifth. Avoiding the opening lap carnage in the pre-final, Cory worked his way into the top-ten, and setting him up to start on the outside of row five for the final. However the start of the final was very similar to race one as contact forced Cory off line and once he resumed he was in 27th position. Battling his way back through the field, Cory eventually finished the race in 20th position. The two results did no justice for the speed the young Leamington teenager showed throughout the entire weekend. Hoping the bad luck is behind the team, they will return to the sunshine-state in mid-February for round two held at Palm Beach International Raceway in West-Palm Beach, Florida. Stay tuned for more information.
